Whether it's a day trip, or a few days of canoe camping, Winding River Canoe can cater for your requirements. The children (and teachers) can learn so much from an adventure by canoe down the river. Away from all the trappings and distractions of modern life, we sink into the steady rhythm of the river and the sounds of the natural world. These trips are not only about the canoeing though; they're about working as a team, cooking together, setting up camp, collecting firewood, looking after your kit.... It is sometimes challenging but always rewarding, and above all, it's a whole lot of fun and will be remembered for a long time to come.
As an educator, you may well be aware of the value of being physically active, and spending time in nature. Nowadays there is excellent research clearly showing how spending time actively in nature is benificial to health and well-being, and also improves attention and learning in the classroom. Here are some links to follow if you want to find out more:
Our canoe trips take place on the River Dart in Devon and the River Wye in Herefordshire.
Winding River Canoe has over 10 years experience planning and running school canoe/camping expeditions.
We are inspected every three years by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority, part of the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), who issue our license to take out U18s according to a UK national standard. Both those inspections involve an assessment of the qualification and experience of our staff, our operational procedures, and the quality of our vessels and equipment.
Trips can be tailored to suit your specific needs. Children need to be 10 years old and up and need to be able to swim. Group size maximum 30, minimum 10.
